Peanut Cherry

Grocery store was having a sale on the Promax line so I decided to try a few new varieties. The crunch bars were those of which I was most skeptical, but they turned out to be pretty decent. Although I remember the original Promax profile being pretty terrible, these aren't bad - 270 calories per bar, with 18 grams of protein, 26 grams of carbohydrates and 12 grams of fat. There is a decent amount of sugar, 12 grams, but there is also 6 grams of fiber per bar, so that isn't too bad. Not the best profile, and some people likely won't appreciate the heavy reliance on soy, although there is whey and calcium caseinate as well. The bars are pretty filling thanks to the fat and fiber, and provide a decent amount of energy. The crunchiness is a welcome change as far as protein bars go, although I could see not everyone liking that. Thee are vegetarian, gluten-free, and have no sugar alcohols or HFCS, so Promax is going for a natural appeal here. Somewhat less appealing is the taste, which is sort of like a PB and J except with a weird cherry taste that doesn't quite seem to belong but is halfway decent all the same. Not bad, but not my favorite.
