The part I love most about coaching bodybuilders and designing supplements is that I get to mix what I learned in College with intangibles that work in the real world. I like to give the example of the economist, the guy who studies how the whole financial system works and the business guy, the individual who experiments, risks capital and makes money. For example, in school when it came to muscle growth, we learned about muscle fiber damage and the adaptation response where, due to an overload, generally thought of as progressively, week over week, heavier weight, muscle fibers expanded in size. Got it; makes sense. However, I noticed some bodybuilders could get really huge even if they did not overload their muscles. In fact, you probably know a few like that; they can "pump up" and look huge and defy the idea that, to get bigger, you have to use heavier and heavier weights. In fact, years ago, I coached a top pro whose main focus was the pump. He told me "If I can pump up the muscle, I know its growing. I can feel it grow, I can see it grow and the results speak for themselves." He was right.
