Uplift contains Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract and 5-HTP (derived from the seed of the African plant, Griffonia simplicifolia) as its major active ingredients. These ingredients are both known for their mood supporting actions. In this formula, they work on the weak and reversible MAO-inhibitor activity of its Ginkgo ingredient which acts by inhibiting the enzymatic degradation of the serotonin that is formed from its 5-HTP ingredient. By inhibiting the MAO-mediated breakdown of the serotonin that is formed from its precursor (5-HTP), Ginkgo extract enhances the action associated with increased serotonin content of the brain.
