Is Cotto the best opponent for Mayweather now?

He just gave Martinez a wicked beatdown. Cotto's been in the game a long time and many - myself included - thought he was way past his prime. But this weekend he proved us wrong.

If anything, Pacman has been slipping gradually. Cotto was really competitive the first time against Floyd, and this time I think he'd give him even more of a headache. I'd still pick Floyd to win, though, but I can't think of a better matchup for him at the moment. No way FM should move up to middleweight though, that's just not his weight. Stay at junior middle, or a couple of pounds at most over for the catchweight.

I can't help thinking that Mayweather has pretty much run out of challenges. He's already beaten Cotto fairly comprehensively and I don't think that there is anything that Cotto could do differently in order to have a different outcome.
Regarding Pacman - yes he's been slipping. However he's about the only really big name out there still for Mayweather and although I think that Mayweather would most likely beat him (and make it look relatively easy) it would at least be a big night for boxing and something to look forward to, albeit several years too late.

He's certainly beaten almost every eligible challenger, with the exception of the obvious. Although I believe that trainers have limited ability to deeply influence well-established fighters, it's possible that Cotto has improved a little under Freddie Roach, and so might present a better challenge if they were to fight again.

Just like every other boxing fan out there, I hope Mayweather and Pac get it on before they're both shot!

I thought one of his more impressive wins all things considered was over Canelo. It's often said about the really established fighters that they avoid the young lions - however in this case Mayweather took Canelo to school when Canelo was in his prime and also very hungry.
Having said that he's had plenty of other amazing wins, and he nearly always makes it look easy.
